Hiller Aviation Museum

Leap into the world of drones, robotics, and remotely piloted aircraft! Master robotic design and simple programming. Lower elementary campers code an interactive robot using touch to control movements and sounds. They learn sequences, logic and problem solving. Upper elementary campers assemble and then program multifunction robots capable of sensing their environment and moving within it! Use high-fidelity multirotor simulators to master remote aircraft operation, then fly real drones in the netted Drone Plex enclosure; experiment with the physics of flight in a high-flying lab activity, fly simulator aircraft in the museums Flight Sim Zone simulator center, program and operate interactive robots, and more!

Air & Space campers investigate Newtons Third Law of motion with a variety of hands-on experiments in rocketry, then construct a model rocket capable of reaching speeds over 60 miles per hour and altitudes of 250 or more! Friday features a field trip to John D. Morgan Park in Campbell, where each child launches their rocket safely under the supervision of Hiller Aviation Museum launch staff. Throughout the week, campers investigate some of the amazing destinations in space that may be explored through rocket propulsion and space travel. Build a model of our solar system, observe the surface of the Sun, use a refractor telescope, identify constellations in the museums Starlab planetarium, command a space shuttle training aircraft in the flight simulators, examine real meteorites, and much more in a thrilling exploration of the universe!

Reach for the stars with the highest-flying Aviation Camp of all! Construct an advanced model rocket, then fly it using a solid propellant motor on Fridays launch day! Travel to John D. Morgan Park in Campbell to prepare model rockets for flight! Participate in a safety briefing, then use solid-fuel rocket motors to launch rockets to speeds of 60 mph and altitudes approaching 300! Explore destinations in our solar system and beyond with a working refractor telescope. Enter the Starlab planetarium to identify star patterns and planets visible for observation, master moon phases and locate stars used for celestial navigation. Analyze real Mars images collected by orbiting spacecraft, collect and examine real meteorites, fly high performance aircraft in the flight simulators and much more in a journey to infinity and beyond!

Discover the limits of the world of flight from first to fastest, from biggest to smallest, and all of the awesome aviation innovations in between! Follow in the footsteps of the earliest aviators, from balloon and glider pioneers to the groundbreaking work of Wilbur and Orville Wright. Check out in the cockpits of many historical aircraft, and construct flying models of many different types of flying machines. Accelerate into the realm of supersonic flight in an exploration of high speed aviation. Experiment with sound waves and pilot a supersonic aircraft in the flight simulators to discovery the perils and promise of future travel beyond the sound barrier. Extreme Flight campers participate in a Friday field trip to the USS Hornet Museum in Alameda, CA.
